ABOUT US

Imagine women leaders from all over the world, creating significance and impact, like the World Economic Forum (WEF) does, but with a different style. When Silvana Koch-Mehrin, Founder and President of Women Political Leaders (WPL), and Hanna Birna Kristjansdottir, Chair of the Board of Women Political Leaders (WPL) at the time, experienced the WEF in January 2017, they were determined to turn “Imagine?” into “We can do it!”.

They were convinced that Iceland, the leading country for gender equality (according to the WEF’s Global Gender Gap Report), would be the perfect location for a Reykjavík Global Forum, bringing together women leaders from all sectors: politics, business, civil society, academia, tech, science, the arts, media, and more. Having convened Women Political Leaders in Iceland in November 2017, the next step was obvious: make it a tradition.

The Reykjavík Global Community, a diverse, action-oriented network of trailblazing women leaders and their allies working to empower more women to attain and retain power.

In recent years, the Reykjavík Global Forum has grown into much more than just a conference and a single moment on the calendar. In 2022, following the success of its 5th annual gathering, the Reykjavík Global Forum began evolving from an annual event into an active community with year-round activities, The Reykjavík Global Community.
