Women's day off - 50 years later!
DATE & TIME
11 Nov 2025, 11:15 – 12:45 GMT
ESJA 5, 5th floor, Harpa Conference Hall, Austurbakki 2, 101 Reykjavík, Iceland
ABOUT THE EVENT
Solidarity among women and diverse groups throughout the years is one of the defining characteristics of the Icelandic women's movement. Women have joined forces across political views and other differences, forming both formal and informal alliances and organizations—sometimes temporary, sometimes long-lasting—to pave the way for the most significant milestones in the history of gender equality in Iceland. They have employed both radical and conventional methods to carve out space for themselves, laying the foundation for fundamental rights and services within a society created by men, for men. History shows us that women's solidarity has led to our greatest victories.
The past, present, and future will be the main focus of this breakout session. Although Iceland is a global leader in gender equality, true gender equality has not been achieved anywhere in the world.
